Patra ni Fish

The recipe is an authentic Parsi dish, called as " Patra ni Matchi". A fish steamed in Green Chutney.

Ingredients

For marinating the fish

  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 2 tsp coriander and cumin powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp oil
  • Salt to taste.

Chutney

  • 1 small coconut
  • A small bunch of coriander leaves
  • 2-3 curry leaves
  • 6-7 green chillies (more, if you want spicy)
  • 6-7 cloves of garlic
  • A small piece of ginger
  • Juice of 1 medium lemon
  • 1 tsp sugar

Procedure

  1. Take 4-5 full pomfrets, make the superficial cuts on the fish body and a slit till the centre bone (Hope u all understand how to cut it, or else tell your "Kolin mavshi").
  2. Prepare the chutney and apply on the fish.
  3. Wrap the fish properly in banana leaf so that the chutney does not come out.
  4. Take a glass of water in a cooker, put the wrapped fish on the tray/ box/ stand in the cooker
  5. Take care that the water doesn't touch the fish.
  6. Put the cooker on without the whistle on high flame for 7-10 min, slow heat for 3 min
  7. The delicious Patra Fish is ready to serve.
